New Spider Alert

The Ballista Spider is a newly discovered, yet-to-be-named species (genus Propostira) found in the rainforests of Far North Queensland, Australia. Named after an ancient Roman siege weapon, it uses a unique spring-loaded silk trap to catapult aggressive green tree ants directly into its web for a meal. Inspiring lol. 

Leilah Babirye is a Ugandan artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. Outed in her native country as a lesbian and underground LGBTQ+ activist, Babirye's work is of large-scale ceramics, wooden sculptures, African masks, as well as drawings and paintings on paper.

Hilma af Klint was making contact with all sorts of things nobody else could see yet. Other women. Her own weird inner knowing. The spiritual world. Ideas without proper names. She made enormous, glorious diagrams of the invisible and trusted that somebody, somewhere, sometime would understand.

Hania Rani, playing out in the open, felt like such a great video for this month. One artist, one piano, and all that space. She didn’t need to fill it with noise or force herself to become bigger. She simply placed herself and her work inside it—and allowed the music to soar. Taking up space does not always mean becoming louder. Sometimes it means refusing to shrink and just being.
